Installation instructions using a desktop computer

1. Download the chatberry software from the link above, and save the file on your computer. In this example I have saved the file to the desktop.

2. Extract the zip file, by clicking with the right mouse button on the chatberry.zip icon and selecting extract. This will launch the extraction wizard. Just keep clicking next until the wizard finishes. You will end up with a folder called chatberry on your desktop.

In this example I have assumed that you have WindowsXP. If you have an older version of windows you may need to download winzip to extract the zip file.

3. Load the application using the Blackberry desktop. Make sure your Blackberry is connected, and start Blackberry Desktop Manager. Click on Application Loader and start the wizard.

To connect to you blackberry, the application loader needs to know the password for your blackberry:

The application loader will show you a list of the applications installed on your blackberry. The applications shown here will depend on what has previously been installed. Click the Add button.

Clicking on Add will display a file chooser, you should use this to navigate to the folder where you extracted the chatberry.zip file. In my example above this was on the desktop. When you have found the correct folder the chooser will show the chatberry alx file as below.

Select the chatberry alx file and click on Open. This will add chatberry to the list of applications to be installed. Click on Next.

Clicking Next will provide a summary of the actions that the application loader will take.

Click Finish. This will start the download of chatberry to your blackberry device.

When the download is finished, the application loader will report sucess, and chatberry is now ready for use. See the page of instructions to understand how to use chatberry.

First Run

Now you have sucessfully installed chatberry, please read the first run instructions carefully, before running for the first time.

APN

A number of users have reported problems that relate to their APN not being set correctly: The APN setting allows your handheld device to allow it to access the internet. You may need to contact your service provider to find out the exact APN settings that will work. A good test of whether your APN is working correctly is to install OPERA light - a very good mobile web browser - that uses the same kind of internet connection as ChatBerry. When you run ChatBerry you receive the error "exception getting hash java.io.IOException: Open tunnel - failure" this suggests that your APN might not be set correctly.
